HONESTLY
just color in some shapes (square, circle, etc) and then practice shading all on one layer THATS LITERALLY IT THE REST IS JUST FIGURING OUT WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU???
it s bullshit but can be a lot of fun once you actually find out whats best

I'll have to try it out later I always have a really hard time understanding exactly how the brush and watercolor tools work because sometimes when I change it to a different color it won't even show up on top of the pre-existing ones?

You may have to play with the density options? I use watercolor to just blend usually so it could be that it's just not dense enough to show up :0
