Brilliant work, old son. I was unaware of WASP for a long time, so the information presented was quite new to me. Wasn't surprised to learn that there was a basis in reality, you tend to be pretty thorough with your research; if what I've read of your works up to this point is anything to go by.
The framing device for the story was quite charming and for me at least, brought back more than a few memories of visiting a retirement home during my time in summer camp (particularly one based at Pensacola's Navel Air Station.) In hindsight, it leads one to wonder how many of the people there were veterans.
You nailed Raz's character perfectly, I would say. I can certainly buy that she would have went through something like that and the moment when she flips the bird at the Luftwaffe ace was great. The narrator was well done too, one does get the feeling of maybe listening the wolf, much older, telling his story over drinks in a pub in the late hours of the night.
P.S. I noticed you slipped in a reference to Archie too, nice one.

Been out of town for a bit. I'm happy to see new work from you, especially something like this. I consider these 'insider' stories about the war to be a specialty of yours. The work always feels so genuine, like they're distilled from countless hours spent listening to tales like Roz's. This one in particular reminds me of a fellow I worked with at my previous job. He was a strange, irreverent old guy who constantly sang weird old songs and tried his best to tease everyone. Mostly he annoyed me until one time we were both working the graveyard shift. He told me he was once a tank commander. It wasn't during war time, but he was in the army and they thought he would be good at it. He said he didn't care for it since he worried constantly about his responsibilities to his crew. My opinion of him changed for good after that.
Excellent work, Ms. V. I'll get to your next submissions as I'm able. I'm still catching up on a few things.
