Let's ignore the crappy background for a moment and agree that this would be one of the most heartbreaking moments to ever happen... Especially if Sapphire herself couldn't see it coming because of all the foggy future paths her vision has lead down, she'd be even MORE devastated that she couldn't save Ruby.
Damn, that's depressing.
