Taken right by where I used to live on the corner of Fresh Pond Road and Grove Street in Ridgewood, Queens, New York.
Years ago, this site was where the Oasis movie theater operated. Sometime in the mid-1970s, the Oasis was converted into a roller skating rink - it must have been around 1976 as my research shows the last movie ever shown in there was Rocky (1976). I walked by it many times in the 1980s (usually on my way to school) but I never went inside. It burned down sometime in the 1990s and was completely torn down around 1995 when I moved back to Ridgewood. The present building you see in this photo was put up then. It became a CVS which years later moved elsewhere and then became a discount store which has also closed down. I don't know what will be there next.
