Moon Rock

This rock, a sample of lunar basalt, was part of a larger sample collected by the crew of Apollo 11. I didn’t make note of all the details, but it is approximately 3-1/2 inches in height. The opposite side is smooth where it was sliced from the rest of the sample. The color is much darker than it appears in this photo. It is so cool to know that there is a piece of the moon in a small Kansas town.

Yup, our moon indeed has one of the lowest albedos in the solar system at 0.12 where earth is .3, and venus is .75 . Imagine how bright a full moon would be if it was like venus!

It's so natural for us to step outside, look up and say, "Gosh, that moon is bright." But yeah, when you look at a piece of it like this or when you consider the near charcoal-like dust on the astronauts' suits, then you know just how dark it really is.
