Yes! I even remember seeing 4 towers there (2 high, this one on photo is only remaining, and two small on opposite high river bank ) in 1998. These particular towers served as powerline pylons, in place where line crossed the Oka river, on way from Dzerzhinsk power station to southern areas of region . Initially there were 6 hyperboloid pylons. 2 50m destroyed on 80s, when power line was rebuilt in another place, two small 25m pylons destroyed and scrapped in about 1999-2002. Then, in spring of 2005 one of two high pylons fallen down, being cut in base part by metal scrappers. Only with pressure of activists remaining tower was repaired and has a status of cultural heritage.
Also, There are smaller towers built by Shuhov projects in Nizhniy Novgorod, one of them was initially built for industrial exhibition of 1896, and then served as water tower

Absolutely. Russia dont care about people, and of course, of any heritage. Local big city Nizhniy Novgorod, its wooden architecture, is being burn (with people inside) and destroyed by bandits who then building something ugly on it. They destroyed well-known ensemble of Strelka ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/24662262/), they made every city look like other ones, same gray and ugly.
They destroyed tram system in my city ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19767186/). And it all meet almost no resiatance, even if sometging directly violates people's rights.
