At last... you couldn't save them all... again.
Commission for
Talu_Lupus
Continuing to finish my previous commission 'batch'.
Previous piece for Talu: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25233918/
As before, I had to concept the armor (light armor this time) and Talu gave me the fullest freedom I could ask. I love the result. Moreover, how often do you see character's back on the pictures? Even though they might sometimes look more emotional than faces.
As you probably noticed, my style seems to be a bit different this time. It still varies from picture to picture, but I'm trying to make it a bit more textured, with more different brushstrokes and different types of brushes, instead of focusing on making fur 'hair to hair'. Not because I'm lazy, but because I find that style too boring and lifeless. In my case, on my pictures; that doesn't mean I don't like it at all on other artworks.
But I'd like to hear what you think about it. Do you like ideally rendered fur more than a bit chaotic style? Tell me please, what you think.

Honestly, the older ideal style appeals more to me. I don't think furry is about so much ultra realism down to the dirt under the skin or anything like that, but the ideals you have shown in the past are very, very appealing and beautiful.
You are right, you don't often see a characters back, and this is a very emotional piece! =)

In all honesty, I just LOVE the brushstrokes here! I'm not a watcher for too long, but your art, both past and this one, is absolutely incredible. And especially for a more emotional piece like this, the more 'loose' style fits the scene better. In the end though, it is absolutely your call and what YOU feel is better for you and more fun to you! :)
Finding the 'best way' to do art is a tiring process, but when the result looks like this....dayumm.

You are most welcome! :)
Well, one advice I could give you when it comes to commissions: Give the commissioners an example beforehand and let them know 'this is the style of the commission'. With a piece that looks as polished as this, I don't think anybody would say it's not polished enough though. If they expect a piece that is on a higher level of detail (or simply another style) I can understand that there might be disappointment, so better to avoid it from the start! c:

I think the style that you chose here fits really well into this particular picture since the fur is wet from the rain ...
I might be biased here - but I think the fur you did here https://www.furaffinity.net/view/26226282/ was perfect - in particular for a dry environment...
But I think it would probably look out of place in the rain that is shown in this picture. At least I imagine it would be very hard to render wet fur in this style.

Thank you :)
Oh, I love that version too, but it's not what I'm talking about. It's more about this style http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19880623/ , but it's still good for the portrait. Back in the days though I used it for the fullbody pictures, so the main focus of the picture was fur.

Hot damn I love this. I definitely think your experimentation is good, when i first saw it the thumbnail I thought it was by another artist, when i saw the piece I thought "damn, good for him". It DOES look more lifelike and i also personally like this type of style more.
Your other pieces are very nice too, but i'd agree with you that they look less lifelike, I think this is because when you're more meticulous you have the uncanny valley to work against, and at your level of detail i'd argue it's the hardest level of uncanny valley to get past. This piece instead still has great detail, but also has an artistic flair and theme and it's great

I absolutely adore what you did for me. Have it as my phone screen and showed some friends, coworkers and family. They all loved it and as someone who digs hyper realistic art, this seriously captures a lot of what I loved about what ya did for me before <3 Thank you once again <3
