"While a full survey has yet to be conducted, it would appear that beyond the breadth of our great empire, our peers and lessers upon the world stage have all been replaced by creatures strange to history if not legend. Looking to the continent we find a queer parallel to what once was, except all populations have been replaced by the strange monkey creatures that had begun to pull into port from across Europe and abroad. It would appear only the geographic sprawl of our great empire has been spared from this bizarre transformation, of which captured examples show no memory of and show considerable fear for our peoples.
The French ambassador and his personal conveyance has been repulsed at his own port and sent back directly to London. The Crown Prince and his entourage, recently reported to be visiting with the God-King, have similarly not been allowed back into their own lands. It is unclear what action will have to be taken now that our fair empire finds itself bordered on all sides by barbaric creatures of legend daring to pose as our contemporaries."

Tess is also named by and given a slightly different take by Bryan, who did a nice little story based on the original picture - http://shifti.org/wiki/Unequal_Share :) Thanks again!

It's definitely a neat concept. It's a really great narrative concept: here is a familiar context, and two things familiar individually, smooshed together. It calls to mind a Franco-Algerian (or possibly Franco-Viet) force. I mean, you could even make WW2 drama fresh with that. Franco-Algerian Napoleonic struggle with the Egypto-Albionites for the Nile heartland? Pure gold.

Not that big a change considering that at the time, the idea that Africans were humans opposed to a different species was a very hotly debated issue.
