Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud. Gringolet galloped along the fence, hooves muffled by the deep snow. His ears swiveled in the direction of his flustered pursuer, one of the stablehands, as they muttered a string of angry curses. The stallion could not understand the stablehand's language, but he could understand the tone. The words were thick, harsh, and stabbing like the fangs of a predator. His muscles quivered with the effort of the extended pursuit.
Gringolet saw a flash of brown, stark against the white snow, looming in his path. The stallion swerved, sending up a spray of snow in his headlong dash. However, he soon realized he was cornered between the fence and the 'predator.' His heart thudded wildly with adrenaline, now denied escape, the stallion skidded to a halt. With a shrill whinny, Gringolet reared up on his haunches and turned to face the stable hand. If flight was not an option, there was only one other coarse: fight.
