A lovely commission of a friend and mine's character. Catherine - the squishy blue bottom one is mine!
The story takes place in a loose steampunk setting, with sprinklings of modern and fantasy elements.
Callie, the woman with the chains is a magi whose powers are based around the ability to control chains, which she wears on her body and uses them as both armor and a weapon. Callie is a Marshall in the Magnan special forces, hot headed and boisterous, getting mixed up in a dangerous situation is her favorite part of the job.
She's teamed up with Catherine, a strange creature that was created with a mixture of magic and science. She was created with the intention of becoming a powerful tool of war, with the ability to change her shape, and immense physical strength. But circumstances resulted in her being brought up more human than monster. Being only a could of weeks old, she can learn at an insanely accelerated rate, but has a lot of trouble with understanding things that come naturally to humans and tempering the instincts she was programmed with.
This is a piece based on a scene from a story that me and my friend write together. In it, Catherine's adoptive father was kidnapped by an old business associate. The kidnappers - upon realizing that kidnapping the girls father would not be as easy as it appeared to be thanks to Catherine's destructive potential and the resources behind the Magnan special forces - have fortified a clothing guild warehouse.
This takes place when Catherine breaks through a wall at the side of the warehouse to catch the kidnappers and their hired mercenaries unprepared. She fights through the small army of mercenaries, taking a lot of damage and gunfire along the way to find her father before the kidnapper can get away with him again, and before he can be delivered to the man who ordered the kidnapping. Fortunately for Catherine, gunfire isn't lethal to her, since all she would lose is some of her goo, which her body naturally regenerates when she eats. However, Catherine loses an awful lot of her mass during the battle, and she comes away from it more than a little worse for wear.
