Was inspired by some art of pool toys racing down a water slide, and decided to write a TF twist on the idea! Story involves a cheetah and some pool toy/gator TF :3
Indi learns the hard way that the Gator Run Slide really lives up to its name...
The Gator Run
By: IndigoRho
The Emerald Rapids Water Park was packed as visitors enjoyed one of the first truly warm weekends of the year. Along the wooded border of the furthest-most pools, a midnight-blue cheetah and a black lion were taking a casual stroll, water still dripping from their fur. Indi—the cheetah—was fairly rotund, belly wobbling with every step as he soaked up the sun. He and the slimmer lion beside him—August—had managed to hit every slide they'd wanted to at least once already, and were wondering if they should bother braving the lines for a second go or just relax in the lazy river.
August stretched as they walked. “Kind of warm to be sitting in those lines. Soaking in the river while we wait for them to die down seems like the best idea.”
“I guess,” Indi replied “But I doubt they're gonna get any less crowded, especially since...”
The cheetah's voice trailed off as he spotted a sign along the trail, almost completely hidden by overgrown shrubs. Curious, Indi pushed aside branches to get a better look. There were obvious signs of neglect—chipped paint and a rather faded picture of a grinning gator—but the words printed on it were still legible: Gator Run Slide.
“Huh, didn't think there were any slides over here, just woods,” Indi wondered aloud.
“Probably just an old sign they forgot to take down,” August was already eager to head to the river. “I know it's not on the map at least.”
“They never keep those updated,” Indi insisted. “I say we give it a look. Either we find a slide with no lines or some cool ruins to take pics at, it's win-win!”
Before August could object his friend started down the winding, tree-lined trail that apparently led to the Gator Run Slide. He sighed and rolled his eyes, begrudgingly following after. The path proved to be nearly as overgrown as the sign that'd led them onto it. Tree branches hung low enough the pair were forced to duck at times, while a layer of fallen needles and leaves did their best to disguise the cracked pavement. Despite the obvious evidence in August's mind their trip over was pointless Indi stubbornly continued on.
Just as August was about to ditch Indi they reached the trail's end. To the lion's surprise—and Indi's delight—there was actually a rather large, tubed water slide. The surrounding woods were still encroaching a bit, but no as badly as they had been on the path, and the nature debris was less as well. Though the area seemed somewhat neglected the slide itself looked brand new, and water was clearly flowing from the exit into a clean, clear pool.
“Told ya not to trust the maps!” Indi declared in triumph, although he'd secretly had doubts himself.
August hated when the cheetah was right. “Whatever, it's probably not officially open anyway so let's hit the river.”
“That just means we get to be the first ones to try it!” Indi spotted the entrance stairs and impulsively walked over to them.
“Indi I'm not breaking into a slide. I don't wanna be kicked out or banned or whatever.” August stood his ground.
His friend simply shrugged and continued on. “It's not breaking in when there's no barrier or sign stopping us. I'll have all the fun by myself!”
Rather than wait for an answer he knew he wouldn't like, Indi hurried up the stairs and out of August's sight. The water slide wasn't as tall as many at the park but it was deceptively long, twisting in and out of itself frequently. As far as the cheetah could tell the entire length of the slide was enclosed, though it definitely wasn't wide enough for an inner tube; he assumed it was just meant to increase the excitement with so many turns.
Indi breathed a sigh of relief when he finally reached the slide's entrance. There weren't any other visitors, no attendants or maintenance workers or anyone like that. He quickly lowered himself belly down, facing the dark tube of the slide and listening to the sound of rushing water echoing from within. With a grin he launched forwards, shouting in glee as he disappeared.
The rush of racing down the slide head-first dominated Indi's attention, preventing him from noticing the strange tingling sensation that spread across his body the second he entered the tube. Water had matted his fur flat, but now every loose tuft was beginning to smooth out. Deep in his belly button a nozzle formed, the doughy flesh around it growing rigid like taut plastic. In the dim light of the tube Indi couldn't see how reflective his body was becoming—or how transparent.
By the time Indi noticed his unusual lightness almost half his body had already been transformed, the cheetah chirping loudly in distress. He found moving his arms and legs to be increasingly difficult as they'd become puffy and rigid, and once he saw their sheen he realized what was happening: he was turning into a pool toy.
The frantic cheetah wobbled and chirped, but there was little he could do while trapped in the water slide tube. His fingers locked together and fused into a solid inflated appendage, though he swore they looked like claws rather than paws now. Indi's large belly began to swell and round out further, scale patterns appearing where once had been fur. Two sturdy handles sprouted from his plastic back, perfect for a rideable floatie.
As the spread of his transformation reached his tail and face, both stretched out, feline features distorted away. His tail stiffened and widened, ridges forming all along the back until it resembled the one belonging to the gator from the slide's sign. Indi's muzzle extended to become a snout, his jaws sealed shut and his eyes unblinking; a painted grin was his new face.
With the last vestiges of fur and hide replaced by sleek plastic, Indi lost the ability to move in even the slightest way; to the casual observer he was just an oddly-colored gator pool toy. He was still very much conscious, though, silently panicking as he flew down the slide's tight corners and spotted the blinding light of the outside just ahead.
August sat at the edge of the pool, dipping his paws in the water as he waited for Indi to return. Soon enough his boredom caused his mind to wander, and when “Indi” finally came skidding out the slide the lion jumped a little at the sudden arrival. He frowned as he watched the weird gator pool toy skip across the pool's surface a little before bumping gently against the side.
“Real funny Indi!” August shouted in the general direction of the water slide. He didn't appreciate the cheetah wasting his time on jokes. “I'm heading to the lazy river, you can waddle back by yourself!”
The frustrated lion grabbed the blue pool toy by the handles, having decided its large size would make it the perfect floatie as he relaxed in the river. August had seen plenty of animal-shaped pool toys around the water park, and the one now dragging behind him seemed overinflated, at least compared to what he was used to. Not that he cared as long as it could float. While August headed back through the overgrown path, the helpless Indi could do nothing more than stare ahead and hope his transformation would wear off soon...or ever.
