My first of many backgrounds I'll be doing for the Auravision franchise.
Here we have a dreamy surreal like environment in which Princess Camisra ascends a set of stone steps and slowly makes her way through a stone archway which leads to a floating platform containing a magical ball of light called The Aura.
At least this is a dream which the hero, Foxglove has at the beginning of the story. This dream was no doubt sent to him telepathically by the princess herself, hence the name Aura Vision.
The drawing itself was quite a challenge. Most of the backgrounds I've done for Keela's Quest have been of real life environments but this dream like temple scene is quite surreal. With MC Escher like staircases coming out of nowhere, impossible broken floating platforms and a mysterious set of ruins and geometric shapes, doing this scene was both challenging and fun.
The easy part was the color, mainly because I only used one color. And only two shades of that color to create a mostly a mostly monochrome low contrast scene which captures the most mysteriously eerie dream like scene. And it doesn't hurt that Camisra herself is wearing a blue dress.
Next scene it will be back to a more real life enviro. More trees and grass ugh...
