I played in a high stakes game at Minicon one year.
Another Dragon Dealer gave a friend and I a deck or the same cards for a 1/4 bottle of spirits and said the rest was up to us and that we'd have to play it really cool. Said there was a trick that we had to make as shitty a hand as we could and the best hand we could. Because the dragon is using multiple decks and has their cheat-sheet next to them they are very distracted. Put on your best game face and out cheat the greatest pages of cheats the dragons have.
Well we did just that and midway even had to swap hands between us to keep the dragon from out maneuvering out strategy. The dragon took extra cards and played through about half of his stack before he settled in on the hand he had. The other dragon dealer had warned us if he did that then he'd have a mediocre hand so the one with the crappy hand holds their ground and the other folds. We did just that and here is the #1 Dragon Rules that usually wins them the game; they can swap hands with any player and play that hand. His hand had two high pair and about half a dozen cruddy cards mine (the hand he got had a low pair and nothing else to match. What was even luckier was in the process of exchanging the cards under the table with my partner I had dropped two of them on the floor. Good thing there are a lot of cards in your hand to start with or he might have noticed it. I think he was keyed up excited because of the size of the pot and all the rules we (my buddy and I) were talking him into using and trying to keep the con going. But he accepted the loss and I pulled my bounty of (plastic) gold bars and various chips I was able to use for drinks inside the con suite.
For our victory celebration I put a gold bar on the table and announced a round for the room and ten Vulcan Mind Meld shooters for me. Shortly after I left the suite for more party going. That was one hell of a wild day for me and a lot of fun!
It's very hard to beat a dragon at their own game even harder to walk away without getting eaten for doing so.
