*compares* Both are really good and yeah, you have improved a lot. I like how the figures are really clear and defined while the scenery is more vague and serves to draw your eye to Shayla and Micha; the focus of the image. However, the disparity between the figures and the scenery doesn't make it seem disjointed because the colors of the background and the figures unify both elements.
Okay, art critic mode off. Seriously, very nice, keep it up. :)

oh dear
well, character detail level has gone up - thats always nice
but i must admit that the coloring on the characters in the older one are... softer - i like that more in 'scenic' pictures.
still, both are very nice
style-wise, aside from the change in coloring and shading style, i'd argue that the older one is more... animal, where as this new one is more human. by this i mean that the features on the new one here appear more human, and less of the animals they're supposed to be anthropomofisized of (is that even a word?)

Your new coloring and attention to details are superior, but as a whole, I prefer the old pic. The boy is Shayla's son, right? In this new version, she looks too young, mid-teen-ish, so they look more like siblings (maybe because her breasts were a bit bigger in the old pic, and her haircut was more "behaved"). Also, the boy's expression in the old pic showed a lovely sense of wonder; you could understand that he was looking at the fireflies and shooting stars, "ooo, shiny!" - but in this new version he is just pointing at something, and the viewer does not know what; I guess it'd be better if they were more to the left of the frame.
