[ANIMATION] He REALLY Wants to Help
Come on Geji, the lil guy REALLY wants to help. Maybe it won't be so bad?

Excitedly vibrating fox helper critter based on the critter I made a long time ago in this comic:

I ended up really liking him, so he's canon now. His name is "Helping."
The general structure of the helper system will be that you can gain one following entity has has some sort of helpful utility. Only one at a time. When a new one is found, you'll have to choose to swap or keep. What's Helping's utility? Being annoying. During a successful run, with certain conditions, this lil guy has a chance to drop in on you and INSIST on being a helper (scaring away any other helper entity following you at the time). An adoring fan who see's you as a hero, wants to help!
Exactly how helpful the lil critter will be, well... He'll, throw rocks 'n stuff. I don't think he's got the best aim though. He'll charge right in and piss all the bad guys in the area off. That might not be good. Well, at least he's a good distraction... and a meat shield. He's gonna get himself hurt, yet no matter how much of a beating he takes, he seems determined to not give up. Hopefully he'll just stay out of the way of your attacks! Might have to pick him up and throw him out of the way... or, how about at the enemies! If he manages to stay excited, he might even find you some goodies, like healing and power bar items. There! He did a good. He helped.
This lil guy will have some sort of "excitement meter" that fills when he does a good and drops when he gets beat up too much. As he gets more excited, there will be perks, finding better items, throwing better projectiles, and being a better projectile himself when you throw him at foes.
I generally want him to sort of be a "curse" when he shows up, but has perks if the challenge of dealing with him is handled well.
In other news, I am beginning work in a new engine. I'm just doing some basic tests in two engines. Once I decide, I'll be working on building my actual game. This doesn't mean I'm abandoning MUGEN. MUGEN is still a useful prototyper for me while I'm making animations and assets. Plus I had some fun ideas for stuff in the works that I can't exactly do in my own game. MUGEN's also really easy and I have a skeleton for my own system working, so reusing it for multiple characters will make stuff on that side simple as I create more assets. My work in the other engine will be spent learning and building up all the mechanics from the ground up. Based on research, the sort of stuff I wanna do should actually be fairly easy (but time consuming) for me to achieve. So I'm excited to show off some work with that later this summer.
