In you and I, there's a new land.Hey all. This piece is kind of unique compared to the other stuff I tend to get. There was supposed to be a full story to accompany this, but the subject matter of it was a little too close to home for me to ever really settle on how I wanted the story to play out, so here we are.
This piece represents the day I first fell in love years ago. Like most first loves, it was an instant spark that blew into overwhelming infatuation that, real talk, wasn't very healthy. I was in a really bad place at the time, as an angsty teenager who had no direction in life. I felt like the world was bleak, colorless, and the only reason I kept marching onwards was because I was obligated to. That all changed, of course, when I met my first love. To respect her privacy, I'm obviously not gonna make any mention to her real name or likeness. We'd been friends for a few months, long distance, and one day I broke the ice, and asked her what she looked like. There was something about the way she smiled in the picture for me, the way she sent it without a word, it felt like it was meant to be. The world wasn't gray anymore, she'd just injected a mess of color into it.
She was a reason to be.
At least, that's the way I saw it. Suddenly, life wasn't completely pointless. I had at least one goal to work towards. What I wanted most in the world, in that moment, for years to come, was to be able to go and visit her. To see her just once.
Yeah, it sounds weird as fuck thinking back on it now, but that's genuinely how I felt in that moment. If it weren't for her face, I wouldn't be here right now, at least not the way I am today. It was the kick start I needed when I was at my lowest.
Of course, that relationship had its own ups and downs, but... That's a story for another day. Sorry for the out of the blue posting, especially today. It's just something I felt I needed to get off my chest, to try and open up to the friends I've made here.
