He ran and ran, until he could run no more. His body was weak, started to go numb in the cold. The young canine looked up at the nightsky, through the thickening blanket of falling snow, at the moon. Many times had he seen the soft glow of the moon. Many times he'd thought of the magical sight as his only friend. Somebody who watched over him in the night, who kept him safe, guided him with its faded light. Now it just felt like the moon just laughed down at him, its cold, blue light only making the night worse.. He lowered his head and whined, feeling as if even his last friend had abandoned him.. But then, behind him, a glistening.
As he turned around, his eyes widened. On the street lay an apple. It wasn't fresh, but it was food! His faith in his friend in the sky restored, he took a step, then another. The chilly wind seemed to fade, his fatique melting away. Just as he thought he could run no more, he sprinted for the apple. Finally, something to fill his painful, groaning stomach. But as he came closer and closer, he paid no attention to a rattle he normally knew all too well. And before his eyes, the apple was crushed under the wheel of a wagon. As it burst, so did his hope. Speechless, breathless, he stood there, staring at what little remained. He stepped closer and desperately tried to lick up the remains, but it was useless. With hanging head, he stood there.. The burst of energy was gone. His hope was gone. His body trembled and his legs wobbled. His eyes lowered and he felt the cold wind flow into his body again. His body trembled more and more as he felt it collapse upon itself. He dropped onto the street, feeling the hard, cold stone underneath him and the snow, as it started to cover him. Though he had fought for so long, he suddenly knew it. As the snow started to shroud him in a suffocating blanket and the moon smiled down upon him, he knew he was going to take his place among the stars. Though he had seen harsh nights, the winter had proven too much for the young pup. His body numbed by the cold, he couldn't even feel his tears flow across his cheeks.
With a soft whimper, he whispered goodbye, closing his eyes...
..Well, page 2, as promised.. There ya go.. Hope yer happy now.. :c
