Vanguard G - KazumaxChrono (GT M/M)
A fair few mini time skips in this one but its the chapter of chapters that I hope the moment was done justice!
“YOU’RE GOING TO DO WHAT!!!?”
Exclaimed the two teens in unison, in a voice so loud that everyone on the balcony from Ibuki to Shion, Kazumi to Henri were all covering their ears, wincing, nails down a chalk board would have been more comforting.
“You two are to stay on this island, while everyone else heads back.” Kouji repeated without wavering
“Why though!?”
“With any luck, we can nip this matter in the bud before it becomes a media known issue.”
“Try to look at this as a safety measure, this island is currently deserted and not too crowded with buildings, so no one could get hurt or buildings damaged if you two become any bigger. I’ll go with Jaime and try to clear things with Leon Soryuu without giving the game away.”
“Don’t worry amigo’s! I’m positive Master Leon will be more than obliging once he learns it is to help out!”
Mamoru and Jaime added in as they looked at the now crouching teens, hands resting on knees so that they were more face level with the balcony and could see every one better.
“And while we couldn’t find another trace of those berries you spoke of before, I’ll meet up with Chris upon returning and see if we can find a way to reverse these effects.”
“I suppose you have a point…” Chrono sighed in response; it wasn’t like they weren’t valid concerns.
“And in the meantime were to do what? Sit here, don’t move and just twiddle our thumbs till you get back?”
Kazuma scoffed back, not liking the direction this afternoon was going at all but said nothing on the matter in that aspect but continued to hear them out and it seemed he wasn’t the only one not voicing how they really felt at the minute as even Chrono was being abnormally quiet.
“I’ll stay to, someone needs to be here to relay messages or updates back and forth and it isn’t like Chrono-san or Kazuma-san could currently use a phone…”
As everyone turned to stare at Taiyou in surprise along with his offer that came out of nowhere.
“Are you sure about this Taiyou?”
“Uh huh, this is technically a Team Striders situation after all and I want to help you guys out in some way.”
“If you are absolutely sure?” Ibuki interjected, staring at the younger boy who simply nodded in return with a look of determination, “alright then, we’ll call every couple of hours to check in on you and get updates on the situation, as for everyone else pack up and prepare to leave, we’ll meet back at the docks in an hour!”
“Really!? That soon!”
“Like it was mentioned before Chrono, this matter has no time to waste, the sooner we leave, the sooner we get back and sooner we can find a remedy.”
Mamoru calmly added as looked over at the two teens, neither looking very convinced or certain about any of this.
“As for you two, you better go and find a place to lay low and hide for a while, the last thing we need is for you to be seen and causing frenzy by scaring the pilot. And don’t worry about food, I’ll arrange something once were back and pass the news to Taiyou, you should hear back from us by tomorrow morning at the earliest.”
Biting his lower lip, Kazuma struggled to not say anything back, this was stupid, first they berated them, then they started acting off, almost fearful of them and now they were telling them to go and hide, like they were something to be ashamed off in the guise of trying to not to scare anyone due to their size. Besides, why were the micros telling them what to do? Shouldn’t it be the opposite? This whole idea just sounded like they were trying to wipe their hands of the pair… or perhaps like Chrono would, he’d give them the benefit of the doubt and pin this feeling on his overly active cynical nature that still crept forward from time to time.
“Fine…” the two teens sighed together.
“We may as well use the make shift entrance you made earlier.”
“Hey! Wait a minute, I clearly remember you shoving me through those trees!”
Chrono shouted back as the two walked off down the beach with out as much as a word to Ibuki, Mamoru or even Kazumi. The three older figures covered their ears once more to try and drown out the volume of the shouting giant’s voices.
“Do you think they forgot we were here?” Mamoru questioned cautiously.
“At this stage I don’t think we even register as a blip on their radar considering the size difference…”
Kazumi sighed in response as he watched his brother disappear round the corner and out of sight, noticing the awkward tension between the duo; turning to go indoors and pack, Kazumi closed his eyes as he gave a momentary smile.
“Good luck little bro…”
Before they knew it, the sun was setting, the orange glow piercing through the trees as the two oversized teens just sat there in silence and nothing but silence since sitting down. The plane had been and gone to collect the others, a glimpse could be seen through the tree tops but at that point they had to be particularly careful due to the lack of cover by the infamous bat filled cave. However, this structure no longer looked so mesmerising or imposing but average; standing up straight they were almost tall enough to rest with their arms over the top, like with any other wall, another growth spurt or two would cover it easy.
“Taiyou was supposed to collect us when the coast was clear…where is he?”
Chrono casually spoke as he looked round, eyes falling on Kazuma as he kept his gaze a way. Sighing heavily, Chrono could only wonder in silence what the other was thinking about, whatever it was, it was troubling him, his expressions alone told him that much. Maybe it was still something from before, something he didn’t really need to fret over… gripping his jacket and lifting it up so the lower hooded part hid the lower part of his face as he took a deep breath, it was now or never, regardless on if Taiyou suddenly appeared.
“Kazuma…”
“Shindou…”
The pair flinched at the in sync response, with neither boy clearly expecting the other to speak.
“Please, let me go first… You know how distracted I can get and this is important…you need to hear this!”
Chrono regrettably pleaded, it wasn’t his intention but his head apparently needed to include the emphasis, he needed Kazuma to let him talk and have Kazuma listen in full.
“It’s about before…” as Chrono observed Kazuma physically flinch, he must have been expecting the worst again “I honestly enjoyed it, I haven’t been able to get the moment out of my head all day, it’s just been playing over and over again…and that isn’t all…”
At this point Kazuma had actually turned back to look at Chrono, one look into those steel greys and Chrono felt his confidence and determination falter as he fiddled with the tassels of his jacket.
“Everything and everyone is changing, I guess even I’ve changed but Kazuma you’ve been my anchor through it all… but out of everything I didn’t want things to change between us, what we’ve got is good, what we’ve got currently we worked so hard for…you’re one of my most important friends, I was afraid of ruining that…we’ve been through so much together, you even ended up making High school fun…I didn’t want to lose you… ”
“So, what are you actually trying to say?”
Kazuma spoke, wavering slightly but looked at Chrono with baited breath. Don’t say it, please don’t, it was the last thing he needed to hear after today.
“That I’m not good with this kind of stuff… and I’ve never really thought about this stuff before but I guess in all honesty I’m afraid Kazuma… so I’m really hoping our earlier misunderstanding hasn’t screwed this up… Nevertheless now I’m sure, Kazuma… I’m willing to take that chance and change,,, Kazuma you’re more than a friend, you have been for a while, I was just too stubborn or too much of an idiot, you choose, to have realised it. You’re my most important person…Kazuma, I li…no…I love you!”
Chrono practically ended up shouting at the other boy, unintentionally but he could feel his face burning as he closed his eyes, not feeling confident enough to look at the other boy but the silence was murder, why wouldn’t he say something already.
“Are you serious? This better not be some kind of act of pity for before!”
“Hmm?”
Chrono spun to look at Kazuma, that wasn’t quite the answer he was expecting but perhaps he deserved it as he looked into those steel greys once more, he could see it, that hopefulness behind fear of being hurt again.
“Of course I am! I wouldn’t mess with you about something like this! I’ve been thinking about it all afternoon ever since the incident here before… Taiyou even helped me realise. The more I thought about it, the more I realised that everything is different with you, I feel content…complete, just hanging out with you makes me happy and time flies by and I… I can’t imagine a world without you anymore, the thought of you disappearing on me again scares me, I don’t… I can’t lose you again!”
“Shindou…”
Kazuma whispered, his features softening a faint smile finally creeping through, those words were genuine he could tell and he couldn’t be happier to hear them but again? Had Chrono been secretly feeling like this since the incident with Gyze? If so, he had no idea his absence had affected the Twirly-haired goof so much, so much that still, even now he was worrying about his wellbeing, that he had such a genuine impact on the other boy came as quite a surprise. Regardless, he still had to say his peace to; he couldn’t lose his focus yet.
“Well say something….”
“Alright…but first I owe you an apology Shindou…”
“An apology? What for? I was the one who hurt you?”
“For before, I’m… sorry for snapping at you, I was being too hasty, I didn’t even consider the impact it may have on you, and I just dropped a bombshell at your feet and ran…”
“Is this about possibly being gay and not straight? It’s fine…honestly”
“Huh? But you said you never thought about this stuff before…I thought perhaps…”
“It doesn’t make much difference at the end of the day does it. I am who I am, why should it matter if I prefer girl, boy or both, that would be their problem…but I guess part of me always had a gut feeling…”
Chrono eventually grinned back but he couldn’t fool Kazuma, the dark haired teen just eyeing him suspiciously, he says it’s nothing but this was clearly something he had been giving a lot of thought over and he had a feeling he may just be able to guess when it all started.
“Shindou…you are taking this surprisingly well…”
“Like I said before, I feel comfortable around you, like I can be myself and don’t have to worry…so are you going to ask me…”
“Ask you?”
“The question, I’m pretty sure you were going to ask earlier…umm…try asking me again…now…”
Chrono hesitantly spoke up, he could feel his cheeks burn up instantly and just after he had calmed down to. Kazuma simply stared at the other teen with uncertainty, taking a moment to pinch himself just to make sure he wasn’t imagining any of this from the awkward silence having driven him crazy.
“I love you to Twirly-head…ever since the incident with the Apostles…so Shindou, will you be my boyfriend!?”
“On one condition…” Chrono instantly replied, with one eye open, looking at the other teen as he pointed a finger at him.
“Condition?”
“Call me by my first name, stop being so formal with me, if we’re going to date, then were equals…”
“Shin…”
“Nuh-uh, try again…”
“Chr…Chrono will you be my boyfriend!?”
Chrono simply stared at the other teen, he’d try to deny but he could feel the tears in the corner of his eyes but he smiled all the same, finally he said it, he had been waiting so long to hear Kazuma say his name and not the other guy but once everything passed he went back to formalities.
“Chrono?”
“You have no idea…. No idea how long I’ve been waiting to hear you say that…”
Chrono spoke through jagged breaths, taking a deep breath to try and regain his composure.
“Oh… then your answer?”
“Of course I will you idiot! I already said I love you to!”
The red haired grinned before tackling the other boy to the ground in a tight hug, taking a few of the surrounding trees out with them as Chrono wrapped his arms around the other as they looked at each other, both now grinning, it really was infectious.
“Then I have a condition to, shop tournaments or anything Vanguard related is not going to pass for a date.”
“Huh... but you’d enjoy it?”
“No, let’s not mix the two together, Team Striders are still the U20 champions, we wouldn’t want it to get in the way. You’ll just have to get more creative Chrono.”
“Pheh…fair point, fine… card-fighting won’t count as a date, not like it matters, whatever it is, if it’s with you, I’m sure it’ll be fun!”
Sitting up Chrono gave Kazuma a quick peck causing the dark haired teen to smirk as he tangled his fingers in red hair once more, pulling Chrono in for a more meaningful, less teasing kiss.
All the while, just a short distance away, hidden amongst the trees the third member had been silently watching the whole thing, waiting patiently and it seems his patience paid off as the young boy smiled, left to his own thoughts, he’ll give them a few minutes more before collecting them.
“Finally…congratulations Chrono-san, Kazuma-san…”
By the time they regrouped, the trio had spent the whole evening out on the beach front by the luxury suite as Taiyou didn’t want to leave their side. With the trio simply talking about anything and everything into the late hours of the night after all, there wasn’t any one there to stop them, they even managed to get a micro campfire going, well micro for them; to Taiyou it all still looked normal.
Taiyou had explained the situation and how he saw that the two were talking again and decided to wait before fetching them and that he had seen the whole thing back at the cave. It really was becoming a significant spot for the pair. As well as the clear difference it made to the two of them, within moments of the air clearing and two had a chance to let the information sink in, they looked so much more happier as if a weight had been lifted off their shoulders they weren’t even aware they were carrying.
The trio were still on the beach, despite the tide having come in, the current barely touched the two giant teens as the three just stared at the night sky, it was so much clearer out here than back in the city or more accurately the trio were as Taiyou had fallen asleep on the palm of Chrono’s hand. The pair deciding it was probably the safest spot for him if he insisted on staying on ground level with them. After all, the duo proceeded to go through several minor growth spurts over the course of the evening.
“Heh, he fell asleep so early…”
Chuckled Chrono as he rolled on to his side to get a better look at the younger lad, nudging him slightly with the tip of his finger but the Gold Paladin user was out like a light.
“That idiot, he should have gone back with the rest”
“So you say but just admit you’re actually concerned for his safety…besides it was his choice.”
“I get that but it wasn’t like we wouldn’t have managed, it was only forty eight hours supposedly, he shouldn’t be worrying about us….”
Kazuma rolled over onto his side, tucking in behind Chrono, reaching for his spare hand as the pair awkwardly interlocked their fingers together, chuckling at the poor attempt, while with his other hand, Kazuma reached out and picked up the picnic sheet Taiyou had been using, fiddly placing it over the top. A task which proved to be a lot more difficult than he was expecting but with one final minor tug, Taiyou was all tucked in to his make shift bed that just happened to be in Chrono’s left hand.
“What are you thinking about now?”
Kazuma questioned as he rested his head on top of Chrono’s pulling the red head in closer.
“Do you think Taiyou realised? Do you think he’s actually been trying to get us together for a while now?”
“Hmm? Now that you mention it, the munchkin was rather insistent on those one on one homework sessions or just going to the movies together or just dodging things in general and leaving us alone…together…”
“He has been at it this whole time!”
Both boys exclaimed as the penny finally dropped on the pair as they stared at the sleeping figure.
“Heh, he’s so small now in comparison…or rather how big do you think we are now?”
“Does it matter, you can grow as big as a redwood tree and I’d still feel the same about you…”
“Kazuma… that’s cheesy but redwood tree?”
“They’re supposed to be the tallest and largest trees in the world but what does that have to do with Munchkin?”
“It’s embarrassing to say… I feel kind of bad for even thinking along these lines…”
Chrono mumbled as he looked at their third team member as if he was now the most delicate thing in the world. Squeezing his hand tighter in reassurance, Kazuma awaited for him to continue.
“Just say it, I won’t judge…”
“Well…does this evening not make it feel more like Taiyou is more of a pet and not a person…pet Taiyou…no… a pet tiny!”
Kazuma chuckled into Chrono’s hair to stifle his laugh and not disturb Taiyou as he felt the teen shift beneath him to try and get a better look at him.
“You said you wouldn’t judge!”
“Maybe so but it doesn’t stop it from being funny…but not as much as your hamster Ibuki comment from before, I don’t think I’ve seen him look so pissed off and considering he spends like ninety five percent of his time in stoic neutral that has to say something…”
“It was a slip up…everyone just looked so small they reminded me of those little dwarf hamsters with the way they were looking up at us with beady eyes.”
“You then proceeded to pet him on the head with a single finger…I thought the aim was to show we were fine and not make them suspicious of our mental state.”
“I blame his white hair… it didn’t help deter the image… like at all…”
Chrono sighed, grateful for the night sky to hide his flustered expression as Kazuma proceeded to chuckle into his neck for several minutes more before finally coming to a stop.
“Well, if it makes you feel better, I get where you’re coming from, and a part of me sees Taiyou as more as our pet tiny instead of our team mate to… I actually feel kind of guilty about it…”
“Our pet tiny?”
Chrono smirked at the words; it wasn’t a bad phrase, part of him liked the sound of it, the other part was nagging at him about how it was rather degrading to their team mate, Taiyou is a person after all. They must be tired or so he hopes that is it, otherwise what had gotten into the pair of them all of a sudden?
“You’re not going to leave him there are you?”
“What!? No!! It would be far too dangerous to go to sleep with Taiyou there…”
“Ssshhh…volume Twirly head… then just leave him on one of the deck chairs on the balcony, today has been way too long and way too exhausting for what was meant to be a vacation…”
Spoke the dark haired boy through yawns as he let go of Chrono’s hand reluctantly but if Taiyou was going to be moved securely, Chrono was going to need both hands.
“Night Chrono…”
Kazuma muttered as he gave Chrono a quick chaste kiss after staggering to his hands and knees, catching the red head completely by surprise but luckily not enough to have dropped Taiyou, the dusting of red visible from the balcony lights. It was rather adorable how he got so flustered from something some so pure and simple.
Eventually Kazuma crawled back over to the cliff face from before that was just below the balcony itself and the same spot he spoke with Kazumi, while it may not be the most comfortable or the best place to sleep, he was also too tired to care, it was spacious enough to work with, without much hassle as he left Chrono to do his own thing, who somehow still seemed very much awake? The dark haired teen once comfy let his chin drop to his chest with his arms folded, whatever else needed figuring out, it could wait till tomorrow and today could end on a literal a high note for once, the teen smiling as he reflected on that last kiss to the Twirly-head.
The content feeling overflowed and with those thoughts the dark haired teen drifted off instantly...
A fair few mini time skips in this one but its the chapter of chapters that I hope the moment was done justice!
