What’s the best part about being at the bottom of the mountain? Everything that rolls my way is mine.
The name’s Podge. Podge Kaustika. Glad to see the fires outside the cave didn’t scare you. Gases leeching from the depths of the earth, each flame feeding off the one before it - it lends a certain … energy to this place.
Here I’m in the business of changing things to other things. I can change butterflies into scorpions. I can change a part of your life that you don’t think about into a problem. I can change refuse minerals into food additives, perfumes, and “medicines” to fix your problem. And once I send those up the mountain to an insecure public… it changes into millions.)
I can change mouthy hyenas into obedient workers. I turn most others into …test subjects. Let them lose their fur. I’ll use it to stuff pillows. Let their skin turn purple. I have a feeling the magazines will say that purple is in!
So I hear a little lizard from the valley wants to shoot her way to the top of the mountain in a cannon, after a rare butterfly. And she actually thinks she’ll end up in Coquiana. Ha! …ha, ha. She’ll roll down here eventually. Wherever she lands, she’ll be looking for new contacts, the furs with power and money. That fur is me. Or, one of my affiliates in the middle lands, who will get her to me one way or the other. Probably with a nice kick! Gravity, right? Ha!
Either way, once she sets foot in XTentcity or anywhere in the Bramble Thicket, then she’ll be mine. I’d bet on it.
I need some Butterflies to lure her in. I’ve changed all mine into scorpions… I’ll give you back double what you give me now, when she gets here.
Come on, give me some of those Butterflies – it’ll keep you on my good side.
