The war between the humans and lakadors took place in more places then just the dragon realms. In land and in interstellar space they fought, as can be seen here. Smaller human ships like Destroyers and Frigates would flank much larger lakador ships too busy engaging larger human capital ships, catching them defenseless... Of course these manuevers would be disasterous if not for the impressive fighter wing of the human fleet, something severly lacking with the lakadors. 

An older picture I thought I'd share giving more insight fo the human/lakador war in a place that wasn't the dragon realms. These are also older designs for the human republic fighter, and lakador counterpart. Even the Frigates have changed design since this one, but I still like its composition a lot.
