Slightly late pic for ZenMigawa's birthday, and sequel to the one I did in his sketchbook at AC2006. Guess he didn't count on his celebration being interrupted by a robotic rebellion. Inspired by Lemon Demon's "When Robots Attack" (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/287468) and named after a thoroughly unremarkable robot fighting game known as 'Rise of the Robots'.

I was aware of the b'day solicitation since it was first posted--in fact I had a Post-it stuck to the computer desk as a reminder. Only thing is I finally settled on a layout two days prior. To save time (I thought), I skipped the normal inking excercises and inked this with Deneba (now ACD) Canvas 8, which I got off a British computer magazine coverdisc.

That's right, this pic started it's digital life as a vector image, despite the lack of Illustrator-ish outline-less-ness. After tracing the pencils (generating about a hundred or so shape and line objects in the process). I exported the inks as a bitmap and did the rest of the color, as well as some physical tweaks, with trusty old Micrografx Picture Publisher.
