I really enjoyed the movie myself.
I'd love to see some of that fluid find its way into the drinking water of the MNU building.
Have you seen the websites related to the movie? (Flash required)

Yeah, the aliens in District 9 were different from all the others ive seen before.
Never before i have actually felt sorry for aliens where we are blowing them to bits...
But when seeing Christopher and his son, things are not the same anymore...
Easily this is going to be one of the greatest movie of the year in my opinion, and when you see the budget for this movie......... Screw Avatar!
To anyone who SILL havent seen this movie; This movie may not be for everyone, but i still recommend you giving it a chance, because its damn good!
Oh, almost forgot; Nice work on the drawing! XD
And consider this....... FAVED!

Am I the only one who didn't like this movie? I really hate how Blomkamp can't grasp how world and social politics would work in a "realistic" situation like this. Does anybody really believe that Russia would idly hand off control over alien weapon research on their own Eastern soil, seeing as they landed during the Cold War? A fluid that conveniently transforms human anatomy and biology into alien, without outright KILLING the person? Do you really believe that there is such a thing as a "global arms manufacturer", and if so, that it would run the most important task of its career in such a sloppy and unprofessional manner and nothing else in the world would ever intervene? Johannesburg does not exist in a vacuum.
That said, I definitely like this drawing. Being a xenophile (and a guardian for things that are mistreated), I've got a soft spot for these aliens, and I've always wanted a more real world depiction on this kind of situation.
I just wish the movie had more depth and more sides to the story, like what you read on Christopher's blog. There's much more going on than the movie delves in to: Poleepkwa having jobs (meaning some have integrated and adapted), different social groups among them (some extreme), a fight for equal rights and more freedoms, etc. Instead of tackling all of that, Blomkamp uses his creations as mere plot devices to further his own unrealistic drama and use it as an action movie: Christopher being the only educated prawn shown, Wikus being the only human who isn't a complete and utter sadist, and so on. The juvenile writing pisses me off. There could be so much more done with this theme. Its potential was never even close to reached with this. But that's why I'm writing something myself, heh. I'm urged to do this theme justice and really explore original characters in these circumstances, without messing with canon events.
Heh, there's an essay of a comment for you. I just get annoyed at the blatant fanboying of this movie when people don't realize that the entire theme really had much more potential than this. Especially when you factor in all the depth Blomkamp had to work with: Christopher's blog, MNU's own website, and more. Instead he decides "Corporations bad! Mechs kewl! LOLOLOLZ!!!!1"
Again, I like your drawing. Tugs at my inner guardian and inspires me to keep writing. If you want to read, feel free to watch me. I'll have the first part up eventually.

I was actually surprised with how much humor that was in the movie
One of my favorite scenes.....
*Poleepkwa aggressively gather around the MNU eviction team*
*Wicus throws several cans in defense*
MNU trainee: "What is that!? Is that tear gass!? Is that tear gass!?"
Wicus:"NO ITS CAT FOOD!!! ITS CAT FOOD!!!"
Damn I laughed so hard at that part.
But silly stuff aside, This movie was so heart breaking. Usually I hate science fiction but this movie was so different from anything I was expecting, It instantly became one of my favorite movies of all time.
The best part about it is, it's such an open story with so many question unanswered that it's one of the few movies that has the potential of delivering a sequel that could go in so many directions. There could be a prequel or a sequel to explain the history of the Poleepkwa, It could continue the story of Wicus, It could even become a complete action movie and focus on a war between humans and Poleepkwa with optional side stories of Christopher and Wicus.

Oh wow. Only just found this.
Such a beautiful scene you've done up here. Have to say I feel the same way about the Poleepkwa. They need lots of love.
The movie itself was very amazing. Wickus got to be a very lucky man. Shame about his left thumb though. Right-handed people and their treatment of their opposing limbs. I certainly expect a sequel from Blomkamp and Jackson. Only one of two movies in which I had watched it more than once at the theatre. Koobus had it coming. Isn't poetic justice just so beautiful?
Last week actually, I found a copy of the film finally (rural villages don't have Wal-Marts or similar) and it was the 2-disc special edition (though there's actually 3 discs: one for the movie, and two full of bonus material and all that jazz). Even came with a sturdy 'No Humans Allowed' sign for my door.
