Sam has come across as having his shit together more thanmost any other character in the story, frankly. If you're disappointed that it's not a surprise, then be thrilled that you built a character which inferred more than was shown.
And panel three, bubble four, I've had that job myself and it wasn't intelligence. At least not governmental intel, just corporate, and it really does change your worldview when you're scoping major events via a dozen different news outlets andcomparing them based on the history of bias of the nation and news outlet in question...Then turn on the TV and see what crap the local news is churning out.
Frankly, I avoid seeing news these days, if it doesn't come from Jane's or somewhere similar.

I'm surprised Sam has a home live, and such a seemingly down-home and decent one at that. This makes me think something might happen to upset that. It seems like man (or woman for that matter) with something to loose who works with danger, eventually finds himself protecting what he has at stake. Wonder if that man will be Sam at some point?
I like the feeling of the angled shot in the forth panel a lot. Adds well to the tension.
