Today, I drowned.
I walked to the end of the diving board.
I looked down into the bright blue water.
I turned around backwards and slowly lost my balance.
I hit the water and began to slump below the surface.
The water weighed down my clothes and rubbed them against me.
My hair floated in front of my eyes like blades of long grass.
I felt the water push me down and pull me deeper into its breast.
I watched the bubbles rise slowly up as I went down.
Felt my socks against my feet, and my shoes weigh me down.
My jeans wavered against my thighs and knees like they blew in the breeze.
My underwear soaked, sticking to me ever so slightly.
I held my eyes open, though the clorine burned.
The last bubbles escaped my lips, and the water entered.
I smiled as the liquid filled me up.
If I had any air left, you could have heard me laugh.
I let the darkness take me as I watched the sunbeams dance.
And then I drowned,
happy as could be.
