Lots and lots of patience. I listen to websites with Agent Reader as I painstakingly render the minute details.
Start everything with geometric units. Wizard Magazine had some good tutorials on crosshatching. It helps to feel the curve of the objects with lines.
This was a panel in a comic series...and one comic page is all I was able to do for that week.
Oh, and use Photoshop. This was done with layers. I stuck the guys on the pews after drawing the church. And the front pew has a layer with a semi-transparent block of black over it.
This one was tough. I screwed up the first one. You establish everything in the structure with geometric units and a ruler...
