Most people forget what it's like to be powerless. As children they knew. Their parents were stronger than them, smarter than them and when a parent said no, there was nothing that could be done. When young, often times your life isn't in your own control. But then people grow up. They get jobs, get money, get plans. Sure, bad things happen that are out of their control, but they have the ability to choose how they respond. And with protection from the law, there are always certain guarantees so that they will always have some protection or choice.
It's one reason Vox adores 'civilized' prey. They forget what it's like to have no control. With society's guarantees, they're not used to needing to rely on their own physical strength. They haven't been physically overpowered since their schoolyard days, and their threats of law enforcement and legal penalties do little but make the taur snicker. Their offers of money, pleasure, aid, all of their worldly assets mean nothing to their predator. And like children once again, they're easily picked up despite their kicks, wiggles and screams.
When they realize that society isn't going to save them from this, there's a number of ways they react. Some sink into sorrow and self pity. Some struggle valiantly, trying to use their own strength to force their way out of the larger creature. Some never stop begging, hoping they can find that one thing the beast might care about more than food. But to Vox, it's all just pleasant wiggles and muffled pleas. He's already chosen what he wants them for. They're food. They may not know it, but they are. They're powerless. But as part of him, they'll be powerful. Just not themselves anymore.
