And here's the third outfit that the book described for Ublaz: brown silk with his claws painted red to offset the brown. I'm not entirely satisfied with how this came out, but I didn't want to take any longer on it. The top part, including the turban, is based off the picture that appeared at the beginning of the particular chapter where Ublaz dresses like this. The text never mentioned him wearing a turban, but I liked how it looked in the picture, and so decided to include it.
I looked up a few photos of actual brown silk, and couldn't decide on a particular shade, and so chose 3 different ones.
What I find interesting about this outfit is that Ublaz is wearing brown, a traditionally "humble" color, and its in this scene that he makes "peace" with Rasconza. And yet, Ublaz's claws are red. Often, red nails/claws are a sign of trouble, and its revealed later on that the pine marten had a very deadly ace card up his flowing sleeve.

I'll definitely need to try to remember your color-symbolism note when/if ever I re-read Pearls of Lutra; that was definitely not something I noticed.
Granted, I was caught up seeing what was going to happen next, and I suppose the subtlety is part of the appeal/point, but yeah. XD
'Tis a nice interplay of warmer and cooler browns, and the red of the nails and the jewel (and the gold around it).

You're welcome, it certainly has in my opinion!
Gotcha on your musings. After all, who knows how many times an author/designer/creator-of-something put something into their work without thinking of it in super-depth, or in a way that very few folks would've thought? Sometimes folks analyze stuff to the point that it sounds like the tiniest little things took the author years to figure out and arrange, and requires a PhD for the reader to get.
And then the author hears of it and goes like: O_o
And then of course there's stuff that isn't THAT analytical, but is an interesting thought and still maybe goes above what an over-eager reader would think of in the first read-through. Like yours.

Heh heh, thank you very much! X) Hahaha, figures you'd think of Jafar (not that I mind), though if think this is fancy, check this one out: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/26507712/ (that is, if you haven't already)
