That show used to air here and there was an American League, and Battle Bots. Not sure what happened to them here, and that makes me sad. I always wanted to do those.

It is a robot competition more geared towards college preparation: a new game is devised every year, it gets announced then high-school teams have 6 weeks from concept to shipping to build a robot to play that game. It's played in randomly selected teams of two robots at the competition, paired such that every team plays with and against every other team for points. The top teams teams after two and a half days of competition compete in a final elimination bracket for the trophy.
