For the time being I've decided it's best to leave Midna as a gender-less creature. I don't feel it would serve any particular purpose in giving this one any particular identity like that. It's a character the reader can decide for themselves which gender it is and roll with it, since it can really be either gender and still be what it is/who it is without any differences.
If you want Midna to be male, shamalamading. If you want it to be a female, shamalamawow.
