Chashtha are water-breathers with gills; in order to breathe on land, they have to wear special equipment with water pumps that keep them oxygenated. When Chashtha are expected to be on land for a long time—because they're going to be doing lots of land-based military operations, or rarely because they are defecting from their homeland—they will have permanent pumps painfully grafted into their gills for safety and convenience, as well as much longer (if not indefinite) land-based activity.
