That's a surprisingly intiresting question, I don't know anymore, I've been isolatied myself for so much time that I simply don't remeber, but what I do remember is that it's preferable to always keep a low expectation about everyone not that low of course, but still be mentally prepared for a posible backstab, just in case, it hurt less.
I give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they show to me characteristics of someone who isn't particularly virtuous. I believe in character so until someone shows me they're of poor character I am simply open to being me.
I definitely understand where you're coming from though. I've just run into enough people that make me jump through hoops to gain their trust and I dislike it a lot because I'm always buffeted by an air of distrust until then when I myself have not earned that kind of treatment from them... so I choose not to do that to others.
