Marelda has lived a lonely life of solitude because she's the only one (to her knowledge) that can fluently read, write, and speak a language equivalent to Earth's German. Her entire life, she never learned how to speak their equivalent of English. So she lived alone with no friends. Because of her heavy accent was a met with ridicule when she was younger, she simply did not talk to anyone anymore. Everyone now believes her to be a mute because of her silence. Marelda ended up having to become a mercenary and bounty hunter since she couldn't find work. By her and everyone's surprise, she became really good at it. REALLY good. She made a decent living, nothing extravagant, but enough to become the big and strong dragoness that she is. It wasn't until a few years ago that she met a fellow bounty hunter who was willing to help her learn English, despite him not understanding her language. His name was Ruger. Through his teachings Marelda started to get a very basic understanding of English. She grew attached to him because he was her first friend in her life. Their relationship grew romantic as Ruger was secretly learning her language, which he confessed his love for her in German. They were to be married but a hunt went really bad with Ruger perishing in the end.
Fast forward a few years later, Avner was Marela's target and she captured him. She had such conflicted feelings of turning her target in for the reward because Avner is fluent in her language, German. However the client that hired Marelda double crossed her and attempted to assassinate both herself and Avner. Marelda and Avner triumphed over their would-be killers. Like Avner, Marelda is now marked for death. She made an offer to him: he and Shazza could stay with her until things cool down, but in return, Avner must help her learn English. He agreed. Just like her with Ruger, Marelda started developing romantic feelings for Avner, the only one she could talk to in her language. However she noticed that Shazza has the same feelings for the human. Marelda vows to herself that if she is to win him over, she'll do it fair and square.

Shazza is good, Arachnis is evil, Marelda is neutral. Just by
