Bit late to the party with this but I finished it and isn't that all that truly matters? (That's my excuse anyway). I actually did finish this ages ago but I think I didn't submit it because I didn't like the colours I'd chosen? Whatever the case I like the colours now so here we are.
This is basically what I would want to see with a gen 5 Applejack, I tried to incorporate some shire horse traits into her but I'm not sure they come through as much as I wanted, wanted her to look more buff than her gen 4 self (Because well she's a farm working pony it doesn't make much sense for her not to be buff), plaited yet messy hair, pale markings, a neck kerchief also really wanted to give her light green eyes.
Personality wise she has a bit of a twist, she is still a farm worker and lives on the farm with her family but she's tad arrogant. Due to being strong naturally (from being born from a long line of worker ponies) having to work on the farm isn't that challenging for her, she's never truly had to try really hard for anything in her life as everything comes naturally to her or was handed to her resulting in her becoming arrogant and self- important. She also has trouble listening to other ponies problems and doesn't understand why those ponies even have those problems in the first place and it comes off as uncaring and rude. She'd also be a bit of a loner until meeting the rest of the mane 6. This Applejack would also be directly in line to own and run the whole the farm after her parents get too old to run it (Yes her parents are alive in this version but they are getting old and would have trouble running the farm without Applejack and her siblings help) as she is the oldest sibling.
Throughout the course of the hypothetical series in my head she would branch out and try new things (Usually things that her friends need help with or just hobbies she really wants to be a part of) and discover that life isn't as easy as she thought and get angry and frustrated when she inevitably fails at things that aren't strength based (Usually resulting in things gets smashed to pieces). Her friends obviously help her through this and help her become a better pony. Later down the line we also learn that she is actually deathly terrified of one day owning and running the whole farm, being a worker in the farm is one thing but running the whole place sounds daunting. Her friends help to prepare her for all the different aspects with their collective skills that all help them to help her in some shape or form e.g. Twilight teaches Applejack how to do paperwork (They may be ponies but they still need to fill out their paperwork for their barn insurance), Pinkie helps her with social skills you get the drift. Finally we also learn that Applejack's social skills have been very neglected as she's never really had friends before, she's always been happy with her own company/scared other ponies away so this will be the first time she's actually had proper friends. This will lead to lots of misunderstandings and times when she accidentally hurts her friends feelings but by the end of the episode she'll always learn her lesson and grow as a character.
Oh also I suck at creating and drawing cutie marks but I'm gonna tentatively say I think this one is alright? It represents her love for archery and apples at the same time (yea thats right this Applehorse likes archery and I realised I probably should have mentioned that earlier so it doesn't seem shoehorned in but I forgot). She's amazing at archery (We're talking past professional skills here) and enjoys it very greatly. Her friends even suggest she should do performance shows showing off her impressive skills (shooting moving targets and apples off ponies heads stuff like that) and after the initial fear of performing in front of ponies (Helped by her friends to overcome) she does in fact start doing regular shows which also help her social skills as she interacts with her fans.
All this writing is probably all over the place and I probably missed out a bunch of stuff but its 2am so have this for now and I'll come back tomorrow to double-check it all. Hope you like it for now guys!
Please don't use my art in any shape or form blah blah you know the deal by now.
