Part 2 of 2.
Part 1: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/26525252/
Every once in a while, I think on how Mirage might turned out the way she did. A lover's spat might not be enough to turn to evil, but it's definitely a step in the wrong direction if not properly taken care of.
Tying up an event like the death of Hebrew babies by Pharaoh's orders has been an idea of mine since revisiting The Prince of Egypt movie. It's not a definitive moment in Mirage's life, but what if the mentality remained? That this was acceptable? That level of apathy is scary... Also, for all the antics I portray Asael and Mirage in, I felt the need to remind people of the darker side of slave/slave owner relationships.
This piece challenged me every step of the way. The angles, the anatomy, the clean-up, and more crucially, the message. This is the most serious piece I've ever submitted, with topic that really strike a nerve with me, like child abuse.
There's one more thing I want to say: we may revel on the wonders of the ancient world, but we must never forget that empires of yesterday -whether Chinese, English, Greek or Egyptian- were built on blood.
So at the risk of getting severely burned by armchair philosophers or having to answer questions beyond my capabilities, I give you this.
EDIT: For those that don't know, Asael, the jackal, isn't from the same time as Mirage. It's all explained in my little story. You can find it in my gallery.

Indeed. One of the first thing they teach when you start studying history, is to try to contextualize the events, and not judge with modern time hindsight. Is not easy, but necessary to get a more objective view of history. Example the Borgia family got depicted in veeery mean way, but truth is that they were no more corrupted or cruel that most great importan families in the period. Nero got depicted as an insane megalomaniac but this is because we lnow about him from report written after his death by his political opponent followers. Really is all about context.
On side note I too wondered about Mirage, but alos many toon villain and villainess. They rarley get a backstory, and you wonder.expecially about the long lived ones (immortality inevitably change your persepctive in life, could you really be the same for thousand years?) and the ones who must have fought teeth and. Ail to get where they are.
Here some of the ones that piqued my curiosity.
Queen Oriale from Argai the prophecy. witch, thousand years old, actually conquered the world. She started it all leading a barbarian, mongol like army. A woman, even a witch, must have been one hell of mastermind and with an iron will to do so.
Vexus fro MLAATR she is the queen of a ,mechanical planet, she has it all, and by all logica she doesn't need to assimilate earth, really th Cluster coul easily mine fuckin Venus if they want to. So hy this obsession with earth, and why she has a daughter? That must have been an act of will, given the biomechanical nature an accident is simply impossible
Cackletta ok we don't know nothing about her past, but damn if she is not insanely stubborn, even death won't stop her!
And the of course Mirage, who on purpose self defined herself as incarnation of...evil. That is one hell of declaration of hostility toward the rest of the world

Very good insight on Queen Vexus. Despite some reservations, I really dig that character (I can't get enough of her Egyptian-esque design), but I never gotten around to think of what makes her tick.
*Looks up Queen Oriale*
*gasps at the the sight of a potential scalie bad girl waifu*
*closes tabs before getting in too deep*
You almost sent me down a rabbit hole with her. XP

oh better then not talk you about my fanfict idea, only on real paper so far, about Orial, Mirage, Vexus, Cackletta and Tak(from invader zim) sharing an apartment and ending into series of hijinks while forced to run a sweetshop/pastry shop for unexplained reasons....hile keeping their "nice " personality :)
To be honest were more of series of notes and sketches here and there. Nothing really organized.
Base idea is that it was a sort of "purgatory" after their final defeat. Whoever is behind this(perhaps some chaotic being) made sure they cannot say not, well considering the alternative for three of them is well rotting in a grave is not that much option.
One scen i thought involve deciding who is gonna cook because turn out that most of them kind of sucks at cooking and bakery in extemely destructive way:
Mirage: explain me again bug why this seemed a good idea to you?
Tak: my name is Tak, skinny felinoid, and you asked me to assemble this "pie" of yours with minimal instructions. I just used my superior logic to elabreate from the clues i was given
Mirage: you just have to follow the recipe!
Tak: that recipe was incompete and childish. My version is better
Vexus land in perfect superhero mode: you two fleshbags give help we cannot contain that..thing..for much longe
In background we see a tentacled abomination holding cackletta and smasshing around the neighbourough.
Tak: see is better warmachine that blueprint you have gave me wouldn't even move!
Mirage facepalming: Oriale is going to flail us all.....
