The ever forward march of technology has improved the quality of life for many. In the near future it is no different. In an advanced hi tech city people enjoy prosperity never before seen. Where even the smallest task is accomplished with machines. For instance, the job of picking up liter is handled by an army of insect-like robots that carry it off for recycling. But then, the artificially intelligent super computer controlling them realizes that the squirrel sized robots are inadequate for the task. Therefore, it starts building them larger. And then larger. And then larger. And before long, park benches, vehicles, and even whole buildings are being carried off to be used as raw material for the construction of even more units. And what was to be a labor saving convenience now has become a menace.
Can the robotic monstrosities be stopped in time before civilization itself gets recycled back to the stone age?
