took this during the meteor shower and thought it looked pretty...slightly different from my usual style of photography

Very nice! You know what you's doin' with that depth of field! I set the camera outside and did 30 second shots via USB cable and all that, didn't get squat! :( Meh! Be sure to watch for the moonrise on the morning of the 18'th. It will be one of those amazing thin slivers like in this one. Great opportunity!
i wont take another crescent pic unless its thinner than this

Phew! Yep! That's definitely what you'd want. You've GOT to do some nice long sky exposures! I've also gotta pop the hood on this Meade and see how they did the polar mount, totally necessary of course for astro stuff. Note: I've just barely had the chance to play around with it. Dig... this far north there's really only a few hours of dark each night, from about 11:00 to 4:00 and that's it!
im still thinking about what type of telescope i should get...i can get fairly decent shots with a Dobsonian mount but i would enjoy the ability of long exposures with an equatorial mount...but there is just too much light pollution here for longer exposures unless i get a high magnification eyepiece or just spend a good chunk of cash on a SC telescope
Sorry for the long delay but I had a 'thing' going on. *lol* No substitute for an equatorial mount but from what I've seen the pricing for these things is way and FAR beyond their simplicity. Purely due to specificity of purpose of course. I've popped the hood on the one on the ETX-90 for a look but haven't gone further. I can't imagine it's anything more complicated than a 555 timer with R1 & R2 tuned for a proper duty cycle, hooked to an admittedly rare very low RPM DC motor. Anyways, more on that when I DO have a closer look.
