Still working on this project.
I want to maintain a consistency through the comic which will be tricky as I have a habit of changing styles as I draw. So I'm testing out 3d instead.
I was already building the locations in Sketchup and importing them to drawings, so this is just going a step further. I don't intend it to look completely 3d by the end, hopefully with some shaders to make it look a little more drawn.
Anyway, the main test is to import one of the environments add a fully furred character, and make it look good when it renders. So, Meyrin is the obvious choice based on the scripts. He may not show up for around 6 pages, but that gives me time to refine his model. plus he doesn't have any extra hair, so he's probably one of the simpler characters to test with.
On second thoughts, maybe I should have gone with some of the crew in the background. That would totally have made more sense.
I'll be honest, the fur part isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Once I figured out how to work it, it rendered pretty nicely with barely any styling done. Rigging it is a bit more of an issue. For some reason his upper teeth want to stick to the lower jaw, which is SO MUCH FUN.
