I have been using two different mics for doing vocals generally. They are both radio shack branded though I found out that one of them was actually a rebranded shure. I could give you the model numbers on them if your interested but neither one of them are very fancy. I think one of them was like $25 when I picked it up back in 2001.
For getting them onto the computer I'm using an m~audio Fast track pro preamp and using garage band for recording and editing.
If you ever make it over to my place we can do some recording, I might even have some better equipment by then:)
