I'm receiving very mixed reception for how the city came out, in terms of the lighting effects and the architecture... but I think this picture turned out pretty nice, so I wanted to show it off.
The thing about drawing this picture was that I had to visually explain the type of city dolphins would typically live in without spending a week designing an intricate road map. The city wound up being a lot smaller than I intended, actually.
THe challenge about the designs is that dolphins physically need water to survivle. Without it, they dehydrate and die. (If you remember the frog that appeared in an earlier comic, they face a similar issue). So, the ides is that the majority of the rooms extend down into the water, with dry platforms up above. Houses are thus essentially constructed like giant bath houses. Lots of tile.

Well I wouldn't think they need to have alot of space, spread out over a large surface area. When they can extend their homes down vertically into the ground. What you could be looking at there is just the area that surface dwellers look at...for undersea creatures there could be a whole nother entrance you would find underwater and the like, and perhaps subterranean cavern style homes as well? Just because its small on top doesn't mean its small everywhere, heheh.
Reminds me of Bioshock, a little. On the surface, its just one lighthouse. But underwater you've got a giant city. And plenty of dry and wet spaces...granted the wet was from failing pipes and whatnot. but, this time it could be intentional! ; }

City of Light, huh?
I would say Shitty of Light.

Also, don't dare to flag this post as spam. It's legitimate criticism. With flagging it you would just look like a coward.
