old Orc portrait (doodle and coloring experiment)
the last doodle for today
I just came up with a new method of coloring and I tried it out on this old sketch I did a while ago.
I just like the Skyrim Orc character design mixed with the WoW Orc design^^

one question: What part of the physical design would you rather put closer to WoW than Skyrim?
As for me, I liked the natural body build of the Skyrim Orcs, but the mouth design was a bit of. The WoW Orcs have a rather bigger chin that compensates the teeth forms and the tusks, but they are over the top buff built. So I went with a mix of the two

I appreciate the anatomically humanish of the Skyrim orcs, but I'm more into cartoony themes. I guess a mix of bith, with the cartoonish Warcraft one being a bit more dominant, would work for me.
And yeah, I agree on the small mouth of Skyrim orcs.
Not to mention, I found Warcraft orcs more interesting than Skyrim orcs. While Warcraft orcs are known to be (at the beginning) chaotic evil, Blizzard expanded their backstory. I like seeing them in tribes, with shamans and deep affairs with other horde races. Also, they are the bad guys, but for the wrong reasons. Mannaroth's blood COUGH COUGH
The Skyrim orcs... I dunno, they are like either warriors or citizens without a big backstory. They are just known to be strong, great at blacksmithing and their own design of weapons and shield.

i see
interesting to know
Warcraft Orc are the first race that the gamer can learn to know better and also was one of the first franchises that characterise them also in a hero class, away from the flat onedimensional villains they had to beginn with
Maybe Bethesda will come up with some games that will get the Orcs into the center of attention one day. Would like to learn more about them and also about the land of Elsewhere and the blackmarshes for the Argoniens

I like both the Skyrim and WoW orcs myself, particularly with both being treated as actual people as capable of good or evil and just as cultured and intelligent as humans or elves rather than just being considered 'monsters' or just nameless cannon fodder and always 'evil' as you seem to get with them in some settings. The WoW orcs in particularly have that extensive background story and a rich culture, and while starting off as the typical orcs at least had decent motivation and of course evolved out of that over time. The Elder Scrolls orcs, I don't think have been focused on so much, and as with the Khajiit or Argonians would be a good candidate for a future game exploring their lands, though with them being properly known as Orsimer and a closely related race to elves I do find interesting.
This orc I would say is a good blend of the two designs, the strong jaw and chin to accommodate the tusks and the overall build of the Skyrim, strongly built without being too exaggerated and in this orc's case, he's got a dignified and intelligent look to him as well.
I imagine him as Lorbakh, an old friend of Tuomas and Elindriel from their adventuring days, or in Tuomas' case, maybe more of a friendly rival. While Lorbakh could swing a sword as well as any orc and was certainly rugged, strong and muscular as well as ruggedly handsome and popular with the ladies, human and elven as well as orc, he had a very sharp mind. When Tuomas and Elindriel along with Lorbakh would get captured, it was as often Lorbakh as Elindriel that would think of a way out of the situation, and as often Lorbakh as Tuomas whom would succeed in charming their way out of a situation. It was also that Lorbakh took to smithing as his father had before him, though an interest in metallurgy, the combination of different metals that would lead him to more intellectual endeavours as the years passed. While his once dark hair has turned white and he's a little stiffer than he used to be, his mind is as sharp as ever and while orcs aren't well versed in the magical arts, he's developed more than a passing skill with alchemy, especially the mixing of potions.
Today though, Lorbakh has been reminiscing and trying to remember whether it was Tuomas or himself whom racked up the highest score of victories in their on-going arm wrestling rivalry. Rivals they may have been at times but brothers in truth, even if his efforts to teach Tuomas the orcish tongue only seemed successful when it came to the curse words.

haha oh wow what an epic short description for this character. Thanks very much for sharing your ideas again *bows deeply*
with your suggestions it would be easy enough to start right away with an all new comic story.
If only I would have all the time in the world to attend solely on art like this, it would be like heaven to me... sigh
