My take on the New York Central Mercury steam locomotive. I drew this a couple months back and I wasn't completely disgusted by the results. So that's a plus!

they are impressive, and I am spoiled rotten with having lived in Portland and seen this up close. http://www.4449.com/
Lucky! I've always wanted to see the 4449, unfortunately they haven't had an excursion out to the West Coast. Is it even doing any more excursions? I was lucky enough to see the Santa Fe 3751 in person, but it didn't have the flair of the Union Pacific 844 in my opinion. I think that using a mish-mash of Amtrak and Metrolink stock takes away from the look. At least the way I see it since the 844 runs with a set of original heavy rail yellow painted passenger coaches. Although, I am looking forward for the restoration of the Big Boy.
oh, that must be a traingasm to see a midwestern coal carrying Big Boy start up and move.
seeing the 4449 today is as easy as flying to Portland. they have lightrail from the airport to downtown, and on the east side of the river, there is the Oregon Rail Heritage Society, which maintains the 4449 and two others the 700 and an older one.
they have their own building, and I have been there. it's neat.
