I've been plotting out a book to work on, and decided to write out a prologue or concept demo kind of thing for it. Essentially, it's a fantasy world where humans can no longer live for longer than an hour or so without being bonded with an animal.

This story describes the ritual process that binds an infant and an animal together, during a time when animal numbers are beginning to vanish. ;.; It is bittersweet.
