These fantastic creatures live in North America. They are relatives of Goblins and possibly House elves. The description of the book does not say that needles grow on the back of these creatures, but all the images, including the coat of arms of the self-titled Ilvermorny house, depict it with needles. I suggested that the ancestors of the Pukwudgieы were porcupines and therefore they have the ability to fire their poisoned needles at enemies. However over time Pukwudgieы realized that using a bow is much more practical and now they make arrows of the most straight needles. Also, if necessary, they can break the tip of the needle and shoot them from the blowpipe, which hangs on the thigh. I believe that it was after the meetings with Pukwudgie, North American Indians began to make horrendous hats of feathers on their heads, imitating the needles of this fantastic creatures.
Pukwudgies are considered good healers and shamans, so you can see this one holding amulets with magic symbols that strengthen the spirit of the warrior, as well as healing from wounds and ilnesses. The Pukwudgies are hostile to people and will never help a person in distress. The only loyal are those who protect the school of Ilvermorny, whose ancestor was William, the friend of the founder of the school Isolt Sayre.
