margerine is apparently one molecule away from being plastic- (according to an email I read) it was originally created as feed for turkeys...but there were complications (cant remember what) and so they introduced it as low fat spread.
Apparently if you leave margerine out, the flies will not settle on it.
Butter, however, will go off
