Here's a representative of a fantasy race I was thinking of. Termed Ketzali, or Coatlkin, the ancestors of these draconic people were humans tranformed by a mad sorcerer-king long ago. Those with magical aptitude became these serpentine beasts.

Coatlkin are adept mages. Their long bodies limit their flight ability to little more than powerful jumps, but most can fly magically.
