"Look, I don't know what to tell you," the instructor said. The mink shook her head sadly at Xodiac as he stood before her, ears drooping despondently. "You already agreed you'd participate in the recital. And this is what everyone else is wearing. Well, except Sana, but she's the lead, and you're not. I can't have you drawing attention away from her by allowing you to wear something unique."
The dragote's wings fell limply behind him. "I know... but..." He held up the pink and white tutu, all satin, lace, and gauze. "Really? I mean... really?"
"Yes, really," Miss Terzina said, allowing a hint of tartness into her voice. "Now, go change. Dress rehearsal starts in fifteen minutes, and you still need to stretch."
Xodiac sighed and headed for the dressing room. There were definitely times he wished he'd never won that raffle prize. "Free dance lessons for a year!" the listing had said, but he'd overlooked that he'd have to bring – or pay for – a leotard and tights to wear during the classes. And the listing had somehow failed to mention that they were ballet lessons, or that, since most ballet dancers were girls, the school had no lesson plan or clothing suited to men. Miss Terzina had sniffed, then coolly measured him and doled out some sheer white tights and a leotard in black and pink.
He'd sighed then, too, but he'd taken them. And worn them in class, even, with small girls of various ages surrounding him. Embarrassing, to be sure, but the dragote wasn't about to abandon a prize. Ballet class be damned, even catering only to girls be damned, even wearing something that felt like pantyhose and a women's swimsuit be damned; he won things far too rarely to ever seriously consider that. And at least he'd managed to keep his sister from knowing about it. She'd never let him live it down.
This was worse, though, he thought as he stripped down. He'd been taking the lessons for almost six months, now, and the little mink had decided it was time to show her class off to the world. "But we simply must have you as well," she'd cooed at him. "You are my student, and you've made such wonderful progress, and your wings lend you a perfect air of grace! I have already written your part, the entire piece would be ruined without you there!" So, feeling somehow guilty for ever daring to consider sitting out, he'd agreed. Which meant he'd had to put out yet more money for a tutu and matching ballet shoes.
And now he had to wear them. He looked down at the "special" underwear Miss Terzina had gotten him to keep him tucked away. They looked suspiciously like panties. With another sigh he stepped into the bodice and pulled the straps over his shoulders. At least it was elastic, rather than needing to be tied shut. The tutu stuck out almost perfectly horizontally from his waist, making him feel oddly like the centerpiece of a walking table.
Then the shoes. Before this class, he'd rarely even worn shoes, but Miss Terzina had come through again with a set designed to accommodate talons like his. Hooray. He wound the silky ribbons up his calves and tied them around his thighs, like he'd been taught. It was tricky doing it with the tutu in the way, but he'd done it enough times now that he could wrap his legs by feel. A few knee and ankle flexes showed they were secure without inhibiting his movements.
When he emerged, Miss Terzina rewarded him with a series of sharp little claps, her hands practically vibrating together. "Excellent, excellent!" she said. "Now join the other girls. We'll begin in a few minutes." Xodiac blushed a little at "other girls," but said nothing as he walked over to them and began stretching. There were no smirks from his fellow students, thankfully, no mocking smiles. Most, in fact, nodded a polite greeting; the rest afforded him barely a glance. They were all used to his presence by now.
Lost in his thoughts and intent on the stretching exercises, Xodiac paid little attention to the soft chime of the front door opening. But he could hardly ignore the familiar voice behind him exclaiming, "My goodness! You look just exquisite in that tutu!"
The hybrid froze halfway to touching his toes. Oh, no. He looked over his shoulder, eyes wide. Sure enough, it was Rille. "Uh. Hi, sis."
"Woah. Wow. Ballet sure does agree with you. I would kill for a butt and legs like yours!"
Xodiac closed his eyes, resigned to the indignation, and resumed stretching. "Thanks. I guess. Why are you here?"
"I just wanted to know where you've been disappearing to each week," Rille said. "Ballet! Who would have guessed? Will there be a recital?"
This was the worst. Or so he thought, until Miss Terzina actually told her the date.
"Oh, wonderful. I'll just have to tell everyone!"
Someday, Xodiac thought, I'm going learn not to tempt fate with thoughts like those.

This is filed under my Stories folder, but that's really a bit of a stretch. There's no plot, no conflict; I've been calling it a scene. Mostly I wrote it to explain exactly how the heck Xodiac found himself in drag yet again. Why is he wearing a tutu? Well, now you know. And at least he looks cute, don't you think?

Well, since we already know that he looks great in leotards, and is clearly very flexible and elegant, I think it'd be just lovely if he ended up in a scenario similar to this one, only instead of ballet class, it was the artistic gymnastics team. I know he'd just look amazing in a girl's gymnast leo, flipping, jumping, and stretching all over the place with all the other girls. ;) Another idea would be much the same, but instead of a leotard, he'd end up in a woman's one-piece swimsuit on the ladies' swim team - either regular swimming, or synchro swimming. And maybe Xoie could join him on these excursions, or not, like in this story.
Do those sound like fun? At least for you, if not for Xodi

Those definitely sound fun. I expect Xodiac to wind up in a one-piece eventually; if nothing else, he'll forget to pack his regular trunks for a trip to the beach (or more likely Xoie will remove it from his bag). Swim or gymnastics team is less likely. He's not likely to volunteer, so arranging it would be trickier. If you have any ideas on how to draft him, though, feel free to suggest them. Perhaps then something might happen sooner rather than later (but no promises). :)
Keeping a spare one-piece swimsuit around just in case she has a chance to make her brother wear it? Xoie is a wonderful sister
As for gymnastics team, hmm, I'm sure there are ways we could contrive to get him onboard with that. It wouldn't necessarily have to be on a team to start with...maybe he just signs up for classes/practice, only to find out that it's girls-only, and he consequently has to wear a leotard and get dressed up and all that fun stuff. He stays around, just doing it casually, until he gets really good, and the girls/coach beg and plead him to join them at a competition because he's one of their best gymnasts. Unless gymnastics isn't something he'd willingly do at all. Perhaps he needs to fulfill an athletic credit (I don't know how Xodi's current education works or what level he's in ;p ) and gymnastics is the only one available - and again, girls only and stuff.
Or maybe there's someone on the team who he sees a reason to stick around. Perhaps there's a famous Olympian coaching him, and he sees the classes as a rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, or maybe the team has a crush of his who he wants to be around (guy or girl, not sure what Xodi's orientation is either. ;D ) Maybe, if he has one, said crush asks him personally to join the team, or he just loses a bet with Xoie, or she blackmails him into it. All that kind of fun stuff. ;)
Of course you could always do a slight variation of the original story above. Another prize, perhaps, or some kind of scholarship or something that he gets. "Free tumbling lessons for a year", or something like that, and he finds out that it's actually teaching him girls' gymnastics. Xodi really needs to learn to read the fine print.
And it wouldn't have to be gymnastics-specific, all those ideas would work for any of them - girls diving/swimming team or synchro swimming.

Some nice ideas there! Not all of them would work well, however...
* Signing up for classes: seems a bit too much like the ballet scenario, I'm afraid. I don't mind repeatedly tricking Xodiac into wearing this stuff, but he's supposed to be a little too trusting, not absolutely foolish. He wouldn't fall for the same trick twice.
* Fulfilling an academic credit: that might work better. I see the "default" Xodiac as a recent college graduate, or equivalent age, but it could well have happened while he was in high school or college or something.
* Someone there he wants to be taught by: kind of makes sense, but I don't think it would be the coach. If you found out there was a world famous jockey teaching your local equestrian club, you'd think it's neat but if you hate horses you're hardly going to sign up. Ditto with girls' gymnastics.
* Your idea that he signs on because of a crush makes more sense. He finds a girl he likes is taking gymnastics, and impulsively signs up to get closer to her and show he has the same interests and so on. Oh, it's girls-type gymnastics only? Oops...
* Losing a bet is a possible way to get him to wear almost anything. However, I don't want to use it unless I really want the picture or story and really can't think of anything else that works. I'm holding it in reserve, essentially.
* A possibility you didn't mention is punishment. He's caught roughhousing in school one too many times and he's given the option of being suspended for a month or signing up for gymnastics, or something.
And, as you say, some of these would work for swim team, also. But I think I like the idea of Xoie unpacking his swim trunks when they go on a beach trip for that one. No swim team, probably, but at least he'd wind up in her swimwear.

Awesome! I'm glad you thought so.
* That's fine about the ballet scenario, it's more funny to see more variety anyway, in the different ways he ends up stuck in girls' stuff.
* Cool. Either high school or college would work, whichever would be cuter. Especially if in this scenario, Xodiac is still a little shy and insecure about thesee things.
The athletic credit one could be especially cute for being gradual. Oh, well, I've gotten stuck doing gymnastics for this athletic credit? Well, I'd never have signed up for it myself, but there are worse options. Oh, I'm the only boy in the class? Well, I guess there's less competition then. Oh, I have to do the girls' events? Well, they look less difficult anyway. Oh, I have to wear a girl's leotard? Wait a second...."
* You're probably right about that. If this was going to be the idea t all, maybe it's just a favorite teacher of his who encourages him to sign up. The Olympian could come later, after he's already gotten stuck wearing a girl's leotard. Getting seen en femme by people you know is embarrassing enough, getting seen by famous people is another level entirely ;)
* I'm glad that you like that one, I think that was probably the cutest idea. Adds a little bit of a "rom-com twist" to the idea. ;) A question: what's Xodi's sexuality? I'm guessing from your comment that he at least likes girls, but it wouldn't have to be one. If his crush is a boy, maybe it turns out that dude just likes and prefers the girls leotards/events, and encourages Xodi to do the same. :) Regardless of his crush's gender, they could tell Xodi he looks really cute in a girl's leotard and whatnot, once he's in there. Maybe his crush actually encourages him to try out in the first place, telling him they think he'd be great at it! And Xodi's just like, "Your wish is my command", and signs up without reading the fine print for what he's signing up for....
* That makes sense. The losing a bet idea is your "secret weapon" so to speak. :)
* Oooh, I didn't think of that! That's actually an adorable idea, that would be awesome. Especially because that way, it's totally his own fault! Oh, you have to put your hair in a scrunchie and wear a girl's leotard? Guess you should have thought about that before you did whatever it was you did to get in trouble, Xodi.... ;) Would it be cuter to have whatever he did be somehow related to the gymnastics team, or to have it be completely random and the punishment was incidental to the crime? Or maybe gymnastics wasn't chosen as his sports team at random, but for its punishing girliness on his psyche.... ;) Whichever you like.
* Another possibility I thought of was simple clerical error! Somebody in the offices makes a paperwork error when figuring out Xodi's schedule for the year and puts him in the gymnastics class, assigning him the girl's uniform and everything. Oops, but well, there's nothing to be done. Maybe the staffer got his and Xoie's schedules mixed up. :)
I like the idea of Xoie switching his swimsuit as well. Especially if the beach is very crowded and there are plenty of people to see him in a one-piece. :) There are still possibilities for how that could work! Maybe Xodi takes not a class, but lessons, since that's more of a life skill and less of a sport than gymnastics. Swimming lessons for flyers! It just happens to be girl's only. "As long as he winds up in her swimwear, indeed."
