Well, OBVIOUSLY there was a transdimentional rift between him and his Second-Life character- who was already a Green Lantern. The ring would have been pulled onto his/her finger via quantum physics. As her body 'itself' became the conduit- the ring would have 'appeared' to just grow out of her finger.

Speaking of lanterns, I would likely either be a red lantern (because of my history of anger and frustration) or a black lantern (for starters, I really don't mind seeing characters I loathe getting killed, like Miles of "Las Lindas" for instance) so... she's out of luck with me.
