Star dragons are technically from the planet Karu-uk, which is the only place in the universe where these bipedal, flightless dragons are found naturally. Some have been caught and imported to help cull invasive species on other planets, due to their voracious appetite and ability to eat anything, even stone and liquid metal.
The planet sports a huge, needle-like projection; a huge asteroid collided with the planet and wiped out most life, leaving the early ancestors of the star dragons in a place with little food.
These early dragons were small scavengers, which relied on underwater prey to fill in their diets; the back fins have always been used like gills, and it was what saved them during impact.
It's believed that a small portion of the population, already able to consume some rocks (they had teeth for grasping only, and as a result had highly acidic systems to break down whole prey. Rocks were taken to add minerals to the diet) climbed the asteroid and began to feed on it. The rock, which was large enough to actually stick out of the upper atmosphere, released the first of the dragons into space, where they thrived with no predators and a system built to take a beating.
The remaining dragons evolved into bipedal carnivores, averaging about twenty feet in length. They filled in a niche left after the cataclysm, as most large predators were the first to perish as their prey died out or migrated away. Most herbivores came back quickly, the plant-life recovering and adapting to the harsh conditions.
As it stands, Karu-uk is a wild planet, most made up of dense forest and deep oceans. The asteroid, which was filled with frozen water and bacteria from its own source, helped kick start a new ecosystem where the terrestrial star dragon could easily reign as a top predator.
Terrestrial star dragons cannot swim, and are not fast-moving. Instead, the use brute force and size to overpower prey, and are often seen killing other predators. They have wide, three-toed feet, with all three toes being fairly well developed and equal in length. The forth toe is under-developed, although some individuals have it close to equal length with the rest of their toes; it's a recessive gene.
The hip bones are similar to that of the common star dragon, with shorter bones giving them then a slim profile unlike most earth dinosaurs.
