Which always perplexed me too. We don't actually see them manage though because none of the principal characters is equine; all equines are background. We did see how the Elephants managed, but why did the other pachyderms have hands (hippos and rhinos)? I know I think too much about that, but I like to have some sense of how they live their day-to-day lives. Hooves for feet I can handle, but not hooves for hands.
