I've been going through old photos myself. Fifty years worth.
I'm scanning some to DVD-ROM to save from fading.

Some places I barely remember. Some people I no longer recognize.

A friend on mine used to go to estate sales, looking for old toys and kitchen gadgets.
She said the saddest thing to see were old photos.
It meant there was no one left in the family to take them. No one who remembered at all.

I was doing stuff like this just last night but with the complete opposite reaction. It feels liberating to review my file cabinets and toss out several pounds' worth of old obsolete correspondences and documents, at least the ones that hold no historical or personal significance.
